Well friends, the holidaze have hit. Everyone is rushing about like it is of the utmost importance that they get Cousin Joe that mug with hot chocolate mix in it. My saving grace is, that being unemployed, I have no money with which to get gifts. Therefore, my loved ones will get handmade things. They will, of course, act like whatever I give is the most wonderful thing that anyone has ever made in the history of crafts! Who am I kidding? I will get a puzzled look from my son and the inevitable, “where’s the cash?” From my mother I’ll get a condescending giggle as if I have lost my mind to ever think that I had any creativity, and if I did, that I could ever make a living from it. Well, I’ll give her the making a living thing. Only my boyfriend Greg will be unabashedly delighted, thankful, and proud that I, his girlfriend, could make such a beautiful thing. I love him, I honestly love him.
Anyway, in these days before Christmas, dear friends, let us remember… it is not in the giving of presents, but in the giving of ourselves that we honor the person for whom the holiday is all about. Jesus is the reason for the season and that is not just a cliche, but the truth. God gave his son and in his honor we should give more of our time, energy, and thoughtfulness to those less fortunate than ourselves. I am truly blessed, as are most of the people I know. However, all you have to do is turn on the t.v. to see so many more that are not nearly as lucky as we are.
So in keeping with the season, Merry Christmas and in the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one.”
